Our old vet in NYC always said that a basset would never starve. Goliath 
had days when he would do the same thing. Eventually he'd "deign" to eat 
the "slop" we were serving.

My elderly cats got to the point where they were not eating. Vet said 
that as animals age, their sense of smell diminishes. He gave me some 
(really smelly) powder to sprinkle on their food. It worked. Perhaps the 
appetite stimulators would be a solution?
