Oh Jackie I am so very sorry to hear that it was time for little Nikki to leave you for the bridge.  I am so sorry for your loss, fly free sweet Nikki.
I know the heartache all too well.  Once, only once, Greg and I lost a dog (sweet Maggie) who was an only dog ...... it was very tough .... we saw movement in the shadows in corners for weeks ...... basically until we rescued Cyrus ...... we believe she hung around .... waiting and worrying ..... it nearly broke me Jackie so all I can say is GO GET A DOG FROM THE SHELTER!  Go get any dog frankly ..... foster one ..... do what you need to do in order to have a dog in the house with you ..... I really believe that is what you should do .... right now.
