this is Mariah.  so far so good.  it is the fourth of July at 6 pm and we have not heard a single firework so far.  now,granted, usually the earth doesn’t really explode until after dark, which is still an hour or so away, but where I live, people LOVE fireworks. sometimes they go on for days, day and night.  (Though this tends to be more at New Year’s than now.  A lot of people who live here pretend we are not a part of the USA.  But any reason to explode fireworks still grabs them.)  So why the relative peace? It has been pouring rain all day.  It is my fervent hope this will continue all night.  Still, I give thanks to live in a country which respects dogs (moreso on the mainland than here actually) and where my humans have a lot of freedoms still, though Mom says everybody better vote, whatever that means.
