Hello,
One thing about UTIs is that once you have one you need to drink a TON of water to flush out the bacteria.  You can give people and extra glass of water but dogs often need encouragement ..... my mom always recommended "hot dog water" in which you boil a hot dog in a pot of water, cool the water and then give it to the dog ..... they'll drink it!  You can use a hot dog 2 or 3 times and then cut it up for treats.
Getting Reggie to drink a lot of water should help prevent infections, and, as Bev pointed out cranberry is known to help.
Low slung basset girls can (and do) get recurring UTIs .... I've heard people say they resorted to baby wipes to keep bacteria levels low  ..... but for boys I'm not sure there is much you can do other than increasing water intake, cranberry, and, of course, immediate trip to the vet for suspected UTI.
Best,Dale
