[Dailydrool] UTI's in a female basset

Our Nellie who is about 5 years has frequent UTI's. She had a recent
ultrasound of the bladder and was found to have one kidney encased in
calcium and so only one working kidney. Her kidney values are normal as is
all her bloodwork.

Our vet thinks that the cruel folks who abandoned Nellie, after she had one
litter of puppies, most likely failed to treat any UTIs. We adopted Nellie
almost two years ago and she is both beautiful and so sweet a little girl
(40 pounds) .

Our vet has found several times that while she does not have bacteria in
her urine presently, she has more white cells than normal. Her bladder
wall is thickened and may be inflamed from embedded bladder stones. Nellie
otherwise is in good health, loves to eat, and loves to be loved.

She has been on Royal Canin Urinary SO food and treats for several months
now as well as Solid Gold Berry Balance . The next step will have to be a
needle biopsy of her bladder wall but the ultrasound did not show cancer,
thankfully. The vet is trying to avoid her having this procedure.

Our vet is next going to try her on a low dose of steroid meds for a week
to see if that gets rid of the white cells, which he thinks are from the
bladder wall inflammation.

Anyone else ever had a similar problem ?
