[Dailydrool] Apoquel

Dino who has a lot of skin problems uses Apoquel and it really helps him.   He was on a medication called Atopica which he took every day for his skin and when he began to be itchy he was able to go on Apoquel for two weeks.   For some reason the two couldn't be taken together for more than two weeks.   We were getting his Atopica from UC Davis but we moved several months ago and it is way more expensive anyplace else other than UC Davis and that was just too far to take him.   I was able to order a huge supply when we moved but we recently used the last of it.   Our new vet down here said to finish it up and then when he started to itch and scratch we could get Apoquel for him and maybe continue daily instead of just two weeks.   I think we're going to have to get some soon since he is starting to scratch.   We've had a couple other bassets on Apoquel too and never had any side effects.   I really do recommend it.

Aloha Droolers,

My Hobs had been itching like crazy these past few weeks.  So much so, she jumps into the bathtub and asks for a bath.  I?ve been using a medicated shampoo prescribed by her Vet.  Seems to offer some relief for a day or two but she?s still itchy.  Was told by a friend to try ?Apoqel?.  She used it on her standard poodles and found instant relief.  She said the rare side effects include ear infections and weight gain, the only 2 things my  3-year old Hobs has encountered.  She gives her dogs the meds once a month and says it comes in either a pill or an injection.

Anyone have information on this drug.  I?m calling my vet tomorrow but thought I ask the Basset experts too.

Hope all are safe and healthy.

Drools,
Kimlynne Slagel
