Aloha Drooler,

I know this is a late response to the Drooler who asked for
recommendations for a stroller for her aging hound. I read the DD
regularly but rarely have any words of wisdom to add. However, I do have a
huge recommendation for "Air Buggy" brand stroller for large dogs. My
Odell and Hastings (both ATB) needed help getting around during their last
years with us. We looked at all the pet stores on our island but ended up
buying our stroller at a Baby Buggy store that also sold buggies for dogs!
It's a Japanese company that had a boutique in Waikiki of all places! The
buggy is low to the ground so even though Odell's back legs were giving out
due to Cushings disease, he could still get in and out when he wanted to
with very little help from me. The buggy comes with a retractable ramp.
We live in Hawaii, so we didn't need to purchase the bonnet that attaches
to the stroller and protects the hounds from rain. The buggy holds up to
150 lbs, and was roomy enough that both my bassets could ride
side-by-side. The buggy features state-of-the art tires that come with a
guarantee to withstand the weight. It comes in a couple different colors
but our shop only had yellow. The buggy also folds up neatly and fits in
the hatchback area of our Nissan Cube. So, not heavy and compact! Air
Buggy is a Japanese company but they have a US distributor in Portland
Oregon.

I liked this buggy over a wagon because I was pushing the "Boys" in front
of me, instead of pulling the wagon from behind. I was able to monitor
them while navigating the walkway or sidewalk. I looked online
extensively, and could not find a better buggy for a larger dog.

After we lost both "Boys", I kept the stroller and lent it out to my
friend who used it with her Grand Pyerenese after he lost one of his legs
to cancer. Even at 120Lbs, she had no trouble pushing her baby around.

If you'd like to see pictures of the stroller, please email me and I'll
send you some.

Sincerely,

Kimlynne Slagel
mom to Hobs
and to Odell and Hastings forever.
