Years ago the Utah basset rescue took in a young basset that was biting. He bit several people in rescue, and there was discussion of euthanizing him. He was in the main foster home with 20 + other dogs. OK with dogs. Bit people. A local training place offered to evaluate and comp us a class. He resource guarded small items--especially plastic. Picked him up in a muzzle and went to the classes with him...doing pretty well. Well, boarding place got full on holidays and we had to clear out our dogs for full paying boarders, so everyone full. I decided to bring him home for Easter weekend. Wasn't here 2 hours before he grabbed a dishwasher detergent gel pack and headed to my family room on my brand new carpet. Grabbed a turkey dog and he traded me. He never went back to boarding.

He bit my son and his girlfriend, who lived in my basement. A lot. Never bit me, but I was always very careful. Had an amazing alpha guy at the time and Fred adored him. Dobi literally saved him. I had to be very careful with him around other people--especially kids, for years and years. I remember walking them and a kid would come up and it was "You can pet those two, but don't touch the black one". And I would stand between him and them.

Well, Freddie Krueger mellowed in his old age and after 10 years or so I trusted him with all people and all kids, but it was a long stretch. We had no children in the house and Rob and Dawn were good about being bitten and they eventually figured out how not to trigger him, so good lesson for all.

I credit my alpha guy and just the circumstances of our household at the time. I hope the right person gets Mia and can help her. It sometimes takes a very long time and finding just the right situation is difficult.
