[Dailydrool] Kidney Stones and Nellie

A year ago, we discovered that Nellie, who is a rescue, had only one
working kidney. Our vet has surmised that the original horrible owners,
had left Nellie with untreated UTI's before they sent her and her sister
wandering. Her kidney values are fortunately normal, and with good
treatment, her UTI's have stopped for the time.

However, she has one large stone lodged in the non-working kidney and a
small speck of a stone in her good kidney. This stone has been reduced in
size by her being on Royal Canin Urinary SO food, a regimen of antibiotics,
the probiotic Visbiome and chanca piedra, a tropical plant which is used
by humans to break down kidney stones.

Nephology vets are very rare and none in South FL. Lithotripsy (breaking
down of stones) was recommended for the small stone in the good kidney.
The nearest place for that procedure is Upstate in SC. At the moment,
Nellie is being treated by taking cultures regularly (which fortunately
have been negative) and ultrasounds every several months.

Has anyone had any similar experience?
