<DIV>Esther,</DIV>
<DIV>You were right in suggesting the gate for the kitchen. That's what we
did and it works like a charm! We also used the Behavior NO spray we bought at
Petmart to stop the chewing. We even sprayed it on the antiques and it
works! I highly recommend it.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>When is Bertha doing all this chewing? If she supervised she shouldn't have
the opportunity. If she's already crate trained that is GREAT and she
should be kept in the crate when left alone. Its safer for her and safer
for your parents house.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I've found with my special bassets that I have had to modify the way I do
things. Thus, the kitchen gate really helps. It can be a pain doing
things so that the dogs dont cruise the counters or table but we do what we have
to because we love them. Of course we do continue to work towards better
obedience, and mine are getting much better about the stealing of things.
Some things we can't change like Ellie's desire to eat undies - SO we pick them
up. We would never consider returning her to the rescue just because we
have to be more careful in what we do.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Best of luck - I hope things work out,
