Being heavily involved in Basset Welfare and Rescue I
frequently have rescues in foster or transit care. I don't think that I have
ever had any serious dog/cat relationship problems in that time. It is probably
best to allow them to resolve the 'pecking order' themselves. Any self
respecting cat will soon advise a Basset that it is not a creature to be messed
about with. My own cats have seen the Bassets come and go and whilst not
actively engaging with them have made it very clear that they (the Bassets) are
just tolerated. My parrot, Henry, controls all of them.
