Maggie was a rock eater once at 10 months old and it never happened again.  We just make sure our back yard is rock free. I can't say for sure that it won't happen again as she is 8 years old and last fall we went for a walk and she ate an acorn and we almost lost her. It passed through, but she had ulcerated colitis and blood was coming out of her rectum and her mouth. It was horrible.  She has not since done anything.  I would say be very extra careful and check your yard for anything this basset could take as a mimic to a rock.  Maggie does not play with toys either so it is not like she was playing with them and put them in her mouth and accidentally swallowed it.  Maggie's rock had cut into part of her intestines so it damaged her insides, but she is fine from all and currently running through the downstairs with her brother and sister barking it up and having a good time.<br>
