I had the girls on California Naturals Lamb and Rice but thought it might be
causing Daffodil's um...gas problem...and wet poop. It wasn't. Daffodil
seems to have natural gas problems and one daily wet poop. Oh well, I
digress.

I switched them to Wellness, but kept the Calif. Naturals Lamb and Rice
biscuits as their cookies. They may have reluctantly eaten the product when
it was in kibble form, but make the same thing into a cookie and they think
it's the greatest thing in the world!

Good luck.

Katie, Lillie and Daffodil

does anyone feed beneful dog food to their hounds?...the other day, while
shopping in costco, i was given a sample of the small container of beef
stew...i've always been skeptical of anything containing corn from different things
i've read (???) but when i opened this i was so impressed with the small peices
of beef and all the vegetables this contained that i thought i'd give Buddydawg
a bit...he scarfed it right down, but then again, he scarfs all his food
right down...i've been feeding him nutro lite lamb and rice or proplan salmon in
the can, along with the proplan lamb and rice kibble...would appreciate any
comments kfrom droolers...thanks...Rene'e

Lots of get-well-soon drool to King Bob the DOg and to Henry and Roo. We
have paws crossed that you all feel better real soon.

Also heart-healing drool to Stacey John and Eva for their loss of Kailey. We
will light a candle for her tonight and keep the family in our thoughts.

We recently got a dog from a Rescue in our city. The dog was never in the
rescue, he was just living in a home that decided he wasn't wanted. Of course
he is a Basset. He has very crooked legs and can not walk beyond the driveway.
I suppose he was in a crate most of his life. He is 15 months old and we
decided to rescue a dog for a companion for our other Basset. We can't even take
both for a walk together. When they play our puppy has the advantage because
the other one can't get up or run away. Some people would suggest we give the
new one up but that is not an option because ours is his 3rd home and his
last.
My question is what do other rescues do when people call to give up their
dogs. Do they take them and check them out before giving them to their forever
homes? We are not wealthy but want the best for both our first baby and now
our second member to our family. We are taking him to our own vet this week as
we have only had him for a few days. Are we responsible for all the vet bills
even though we haven't signed the adoption papers yet.
He is a very sweet beautiful Basset and we love him already. Maybe one of
our Daily Drool lawyers can give us some legal advise about Rescues and why some
don't even see the puppies they say are adoptable.
By the way I did call the person that handles the adoption and she said take
him to your vet she didn't say send the bill to them though.
Just wondering.

Not all vets offer to take a paw print, and you might find yourself,
as we did, having to go to an ER after hours. ERs can be pretty no-
frills about providing mementos. In the event you do want to have a
paw print made (and I sure wish now that we'd done this with our
late, great Jane Basset), you can buy kits for them at hobby shops.
They sell them for kids hand prints, but you can use them for paws
just as easily. Do an internet search for "paw print kit" and you'll
come up with lots of companies that sell them online. You might also
want to snip a lock of fur, but all vets' offices should have
scissors suitable for that so you won't have to remember to bring
your own.

I hated not being able to let our Jane die at home, especially since
she loathed being at the vet's office. But the timing of her decline
didn't coincide with the vet who makes house calls in our area. So we
took her to the ER with her bed so she could at least die on her own
bed if not in her own home.

Something I'm very, very glad I did was to find a pet crematorium
several months before Jane died. We could have arranged with one at
the ER to come pick up her body from the ER the next day. But I was
so afraid that the ashes we'd get back wouldn't be Jane's, that a mix-
up would happen along the way. So we took her body home with us and I
drove it, still on her bed, to the crematorium the next day and
watched it be put into the oven. You may not want to do it this way,
but it was helpful for me and gave me some closure. I'm just glad I
called the crematorium before Jane died and found out what services
they offered, their hours, etc. After she died, I wasn't in any shape
for tracking down that kind of information or making decisions. Your
vet should be able to give you the names of some pet cemeteries and
crematoriums and you can do the calling now and choose the one you
like before you actually need it.

I was happy with the imitation Chinese porcelain urn the crematorium
put our Jane's ashes in, but if you'd like to have a special
container, you can start keeping an eye out for something now.

Pw. Sadie and Countess Penny, I hope your question about pre-Bridge
preparations isn't an indication that your elderly cocker spaniel
sister isn't doing well these days. Just in case, our Elsinore and
young Charlie will send some drool her way.

Elizabeth

can anyone suggest where to buy a crate mat. i want one that is non fleece---non cloth material. sir henry has acquired a taste for tearing up the mats in his sleep crate.. i am hoping that one that is non fleece---non cloth material might prove to last. i have seen somewhere ( and can't remember where) a mat that is thick but the outside is slick. i want him to have the padding for his crate.. email me directly if you have seen anything like what i am describing. and to make this basset related. his basset brudder and sister winston and sadie want their long legger brudder to be comfy too.

Becky,

I loved your tales of Morse and his house-visit! And his photos are wonderful. I was especially taken by this one, hope you don't mind my fiddling with a little sketching, tweaking colors, and adding a frame. This image speaks volumes! Morse obviously knows the way.

Oh, what to do, what to do...I get home from our girls weekend with Amanda, Pat, Carol and Dawn only to realize after looking at the many cards and e-mails wishing Pw. Xandy Bear a happy 6th birthday that I, the bad, bad, unworthy blondslave forgot to wish the Pw. a Happy Birthday today...I will go and grovel now.? OMD how could this possibly happen that I could forget the birthday of my sweet baby who came to me when she was 15 weeks old and changed my life forever?? I am not worthy, I am not worthy...well she tells me that everyday.? Anyway, maybe I could ask her if she enjoyed her birthday weekend celebration at Slobberfest.? So it was a day early-she did win one of Judy's fabulous medallions for best hound and human hat.? Oh dear...this is very bad.? Wait-today is still her birthday-I can redeem myself...cheese...yes, that's it...cheese...she's a sucker for...I mean...cheese would be a very nice treat, right?? I am in soooo much trouble...

I know many people say it isn't possible to have a trashcan that is truly
basset-proof but several droolers can attest that they do exist! Now here is
your chance to own one for as little as $1.00. That's right - a single
dollar!!!! Best of all, the trashcan will be handpainted with your choice of
colors and designs! You could choose to immortalize your hound or match your
kitchen decor. It's up to you!
How do I get in on this wonderful opportunity, you ask? It is very simple!
The basset proof trashcan is just part of the fabulous prize packages in the
raffle to help Cathi Cox with the recent vet bills for her senior hounds,
Boudreaux and Angel Marie. Go to:

http://web.mac.com/dlindy/Site_10/Prize_Package_A.html

Look at prize package A and the trashcan is the first thing you will see.
The one pictured was done for Cathi just a few months ago and features her
beautiful hound Buddy (ATB).

If you want to see more possiblities, view a slideshow of other trashcans
at:

http://s144.photobucket.com/albums/r177/slave2bassets/Trashcans/?action=view&current=68b28b23.pbw

You must hurry - the raffle will only be open until July 25th!

If you have questions about the trashcan, you can email me off list.

Oh my dawg!! Marilyn "The Fudge Lady" has a new fudge flavor. At the Michigan Waddle this year I won the auction for a year's worth of fudge. After receiving my first month's variety (White Chocolate) I had an idea that I shared with Marilyn. I asked her if she could come up with a fudge flavor that would taste like one of my favorite sandwiches as a youth, what we used to call a Fluffernutter, a Peanut Butter and Marshmallow flavor. This month for my "Fudge Of The Month" Marilyn sent me her newest creation "Queen Sadie Sue's Cloud 9 Fudge". On a scale of 1 to 10 it's definitely over the top, a true 11. If you would like to try some true Heaven On Earth try the new "Queen Sadie Sue's Cloud 9 Fudge", it's really awesome. If you've tried Marilyn's other flavors you've gotta try this one. If you haven't tried Marilyn's fudge this would be a great start and you've never had fudge as good as Marilyn makes. And as always the proceeds go to Queen Olive's waddle pledges so it helps many many homeless and abused houndies, a worthy cause in all our books. To order the newest flavor or any of Marilyn's other great flavors of fudge you can contact her at mjdgwd@juno.com and she can make a batch for you.

"RESCUE ANGELS"

~ Author Unknown

Tail tucked between your legs,

Confusion in your eyes-

I know it's hard to understand

That someone heard your cries.

When loneliness is all you know

And pain is all you feel

And no one can be trusted,

And hunger's all too real...

That's the time the Lord sees you

And let's you know He's there.

That's when He sends his messengers,

The hearts that love and care.

Yes, rescuers are angels.

You cannot see their wings.

They keep them neatly folded

As they do their caring things.

The medicine to make you well,

Good food to make you strong,

And finally to help you learn

That hugs are never wrong.

The perfect place then must be found

The home where you can live,

Secure and safe and happy

With joy to get and give.

When you reach your Forever Home,

Your place to feel whole,

The Angels smile and off they go,

To save another soul.
