I have been reading what others have written, and gee, I found myself talking to my Daisy and looking into her soulful brown eyes telling her what I wouldn't know about if I didn't have the drool.

When I lost my golden of 15 years, I thought never again. And so did my husband. But in the back of his mind (I believe he was a basset hound in another life) he wanted a hound. He had a redbone when he was much younger. I can see now that the hound personality fits him much better than a retriever does. I wanted no more dogs. The loneliness a house has after the loss of a beloved animal is almost unbearable. It is so quiet that it screams with loudness - (if you know what I mean) I digress

One Saturday almost two years ago, we found ourselves on the road to go "look" at a basset hound. I didn't know anything about the breed. NOTHING-but I do know that if I had read all there is in print (or even this list) I probably would not have gone willingly. I thought, it is just another dog. I love dogs, what the heck.

WOaaAhhhhH!!!!!!!!!!! This ain't "just a dog"

If I didn't have the drool, I wouldn't know about:

1) Those neat little earflaps there was a discussion about
2) Those sniffers-oh those sniffers and how good (or bad) they are
3) Housebreaking could happen
4) The trash may end up getting eaten
5) The constant chatter and barking were here to stay
6) The bucking bronco wanted attention - and that there IS NO ignoring it.
7) This dog was not willing to please (like the golden) but I needed to slave up!
8) They truly are like good potato chips - I couldn't have just one.
9) There was nothing I could do about the above - I too, fell in love with the breed.

I further digress!

I wouldn't know that there is a special place on the top of the ear where the fur is real soft that has a soft special smell that is different for each of my girls.

I also would not know a bunch of people that I could share such things with either.

I absolutely knew I was in love a couple of weeks ago when my girls decided to pull a little "Thelma and Louise"

They are not goldens by a far stretch, but I love them just as much as the golden.

A special thank you to the people who do the hard work of keeping the drool coming to my email box several times a day.
Thank you to all who do rescue - thank you to all who share the good and the bad - so much is learned by both
I am greatful to have found this group - in more ways than I have told about here.

Drool to all who are in need, the girls are slinging -
Donna - slave to Daisy and Lilly
