<DIV>I have read with interest the story of the snarling hound. Personally, I
have none of the gang sleep with us here. The young ones have crates. They sleep
there, have time out there, and when the boys get into trouble, a stretch in the
crate- of 10 minutes sure tells them what they did was not acceptable. I use my
big girl voice, and have had to train hubby to yell, something he is not
accustom to. I use a water bottle, most of the time all I have to do is pick it
up, they now know. To me, with rescue dogs you have to look deep, they
never forget who rescued them, and we never really know what they have been
thru, what they have had to do to fight to survive. Brudder Jake, we do
know a bit about him-beat half to death, owner surrender as the woman said she
didn't think he would survive hubbys next beating. Jake is very leery of new
people, he watches the pack before he joins in. At the vet the other night, he
was scared, he growled at a lady that turned around and spoke to me. I corrected
him and removed him from the busy room. Jake is very protective of me. I
have more work to do with him. But we work with him, we give him time to also
see himself the old days are gone, it takes work it takes time, discipline yes,
not adding more fear to a dog that has known too much of that. Each dog is
different and we all walk a fine line to find what works. Would I put a shock
collar on him?? NEVER. Sorry Sue, I disagree completely. Perhaps it worked for
you on puppy Daisy, but to me a shock collar is harsh, adding fear to fear. Is
my house out of control, probably so to many folks, and that's okay for me.
Putting a shock collar on any of my hounds to change behavior will never happen
here.</DIV>
