While it is absolutely devasting to lose a basset family member (I've lost many), and I *know* that I offer a wonderful home, when I posted about my lost bassets that did NOT mean I expected rescues to come knocking on my door offering basset hounds at my feet.</div>

<div>I remember how difficult it was for you to lose Homer. I am involved with ABC Basset Rescue, one of the rescues you are criticizing. Did you follow ABC's application process? Talk to a volunteer? Did you follow the application process for any of the rescues you mentioned below? To expect a rescue to seek you out and offer you a dog is an unrealistic and unfair expectation, and then to criticize a rescue because they didn't, is worse, and to top it all off suggest that because they didn't their financial dealings are questionable is irresponsible.</div>

<div>Most folks who *do* rescue don't have time to sit and pour through endless Daily Drool Digest. They are out actually rescuing dogs, screening homes, transporting dogs, answering correspondence.</div>

things I have in my life will be disbanded, that being the Daily Drool.<br>The DD family has been with me in 2005 when I became ill, 2006 when I lost<br>my job then was told I could no longer work, 2007 when my sister and I moved<br>
from our family home (lived there since 1952), and finally in 2008 when my<br>sister died. I live alone, on Social Security and even though I cannot<br>physically help rescues, I take what little extra money I have and donate to<br>

<br>If there is any extra drool floating around could you please send some<br>towards my daughter Cindy and her heart dog JJ. JJ is not a basset but has been a<br>good basset supporter and has attended many basset waddles in support of his<br>
basset Aunt Edna Jean (ATB). Yesterday evening JJ's back foot started<br>bleeding from a growth that was on it. Cindy nor her boyfriend had noticed this<br>growth before. Try as they might they could not get the bleeding to stop without<br>
a pressure bandage on it. Cindy took JJ to the vet first thing this morning.<br>They are concerned that the lump was black and bleeding. They took an x-ray<br>and were encouraged that the lump was not attached to the bone. They ran some<br>
blood work and it came back all good. No "split/divided? cells. They removed<br>the lump and sent it off to pathology so now it's a wait game. One other down<br>side is because the lump was on his foot they didn't have a lot of extra<br>
skin to work with. I have seen the power of drool work for a lot of people on<br>here and would appreciate drool( prayers are powerful too) for my daughter<br>Cindy and my grand dog JJ.<br>Thank you.<br>Renee<br><br>I am for animal rights and I am not PETA<br>

<br>Xena, the Warrior Mouser (a.k.a. the Basset Bruiser) has now started sitting in front of the puppy, Holly's water bowl. She just sits and glares and dares the dog to come for a drink...way too funny. Who needs T.V when you have a Basset and a cat or two? We are so excited to discover the wonderful world of the Basset after all these years! Really enjoy reading about all of your doggies and have learned much so far.<br>

We have been long term members of the drool since 2000 and are very<br>upset with the amount of sniping and intolernce on this list, it is<br>not the "Drool" way and never has been. This is a list to enjoy<br>Basset Hounds and if you don't like or are not interested in a post<br>
skip it! I am very sad to see long term droolers leaving due to this<br>sniping and if it does not improve in the short term, I will sadly be<br>joining them. I think we need the moderators back and to keep the<br>Drool true to its original purpose.<br>

Was it Professor Henry Higgins ("Pygmalion"?aka "My Fair Lady") who summed up accents and mispronunciations of the English language by stating, " Why in America, they haven't used it for years!"<br>
Whenever I read a Bassetese story, I can't help but picture a basset "speaking". Can anyone imagine one of these bumbling, mischievous, sad faced con artists speaking correct English??It took me about a year before I started reading these entries, but now I?can't miss a single one, I have to get my "fix" daily or I feel deprived!!<br>
Anyone who can appreciate the precious and unique qualities of a Basset Hound?must also have the capacity to see the humor in the thought of one them with giant paws banging away on?a computer and "slaying" any language they choose.<br>

BASSET....EVEN DROOPY WOULD NOT HELP ME..even, the then the coordinator of<br>adoptions, who lived in Pittsburgh snubbed me! We wound up with help from Jim<br>Willis who found us Sammy down in N. Carolina. Sammy is a half basset, but we<br>
couldn't love him more. I've been kind of bitter at the drool ever since...<br>not even ohio basset, Brood, or ABC offered to help us find another basset...<br>All of these rescues exist and want money...and more money...but what do<br>

Learned that on the passage from Fishguard to Rosslaire. If one is in<br>a place where they don't know the language, find the Dutch. They know<br>all the other languages because as one Dutch person told me on the<br>
ferry from Cork to France: "nobody speaks Dutch." Very helpful twenty-<br>odd years ago wandering about southern Spain armed with an Amex card,<br>and a vocabulary pretty much limited to "Si, No, & Cerveza." One basic<br>
food group.<br><br>Before I was in rescue, I got Humphrey from a BYB farmer that was<br>getting out of Bassets. My eeyore (ATB) came from a BYB near<br>Charlottesville, VA. I had lived enough years insulated inside the<br>
Beltway, that I thought the sire, named 'Dale the Intimitator', was an<br>odd name, with something to do with temprament. A Brood bitch and her<br>litter in an outdoor doghouse with a heat lamp. In January. Horrors<br>
in retrospect. Years later, having spent time in rescue, I was ready<br>for a typey 'indulgence'. I got my Savannah from show breeder Peggy<br>O'Brien, who takes back dogs of any age, and rehomes them. I wish<br>
more breeders had that lifelong commitment to their dogs. The<br>responsible, caring gems are out there. BTW, having flunked Intro to<br>NASCAR 101, I am waiting for the WV Department of Immigration,<br>Culture, and NASCAR to deport me.<br>
<br>Sometimes the 'Bassetese' is entertaining to read, and sometimes I<br>skip those posts when I am pressed for time or not in the mood. Take<br>it or leave it, in celebration of freedom of expression.<br><br>Sylvie shows, breeds, and rescues. Not a knowledgeable voice I would<br>
want to stop contributing. The longer I do this Basset thing, the<br>less I find I actually know.<br><br>If we were dull and compliant lemmings, we'd all have Labradors, lying<br>on the floor of kitchens with appliance colors such as 'Avacado Green'<br>
or 'Harvest Gold.' Unfortunately, not all of us had the 'benefit' of<br>cutthroat, take-no-prisoners, skin-thickening initiation I had aboard<br>submarines a long time ago. All of us are passionate enough about<br>
Bassets to be on this list. That passion brings us laughs, tears at a<br>Bridge trip, but occasionally some pain. In the aggregate, I<br>personally remember and cherish the grace, empathy, and caring called<br>the Drool in my time of trial and tragedy. I am thankful every day<br>
for the healing power of drool. It's a joy to tell the uninitiated<br>that it's bigger than the dog.<br><br>As far as the 'activists', none of us 'own' Bassets. Bassets have long<br>'owned' us slaves. Being a wiseguy, I take solace that PeTA's Ingrid<br>

He stayed there 3 1/2 days and 3 nights. It broke my heart to be away from him, but it was the best thing for him, and after all, it is all about the basset, not the owner. (I am slave to 8). Even with seven more at home, the house was quiet and empty as was my heart heavy.Several wonderful droolers got me through the ordeal with advice, encouragement and of course Drool. Pierre was discharged Saturday afternoon, weak and wobbly, but he is making strides in his recovery. The culprit of his illness was due to a problem with his liver, and his TEAM of Vets is working on the long term plan of action. He is now taking 14 pills a day (wrapped in deli roast beef), and if not to add more insult to the other hounds, he gets burger and rice, hand fed, (the only way to get him to eat), twice a day. I am trying to relieve his itch discomfort without medication but rather with constant wip<br>
es and topical medication as I had to suspend his allergy pills till the liver issue is resolved.I love the Daily drool for my friends, the advice, the love of bassets, for adopting Little Nikki from BHRA and Max from Tri-State, shopping rescue and the opportunity to empty my wallet whenever I can to help a basset or rescue in need.
