the recent drools asked how you can tell the difference between the two.
Our Buck had vestibular disease. When we rushed him the first time to the
vet thinking maybe stroke, the vet shone a flashlight into his eyes. One
of the signs of vestibular disease is that apparently the eye (pupil?) darts
back and forth really fast, and you can only usually see that by illuminating
the eye. As soon as he saw this, he gave him a heavy duty shot of
antivertigo medicine and we put him on meclazine (sp) tablets (generic
seasickness Bonine pills, NOT Dramamine!). Within a few days his "wobbly"
ness was gone. From that point on for a few years, every times he started
to get the wobbles or looked confused, we would immediately put him back on the
meclazine for a few days and he'd be good. This particular vet was young,
pretty newly out of vet school and they had covered it, but Buck was the first
time he actually saw it--but he was dead spot on the diagnosis. I would
ask your vet about the possibility that this could be it...can't
hurt!</SPAN></FONT></DIV>
