We had to have emergency stomach
surgery on Chrissie last night. We bred her 9 weeks ago and we were
pretty sure it didn't take. So took her in Monday for an xray to be sure we
didn't have any puppies and were greatly surprised when we saw metal objects in
her stomach (3 screws, 2 washers and 2 pieces of wire). The vets all
thought these could pass, so we have been monitoring all week with xrays
to be sure they passed. Everything passed except one wire. We did
an endoscope at 7:00 last night to try to fish it out – no go! So,
we went to surgery – got the wire AND about 13 pieces of the rim of a
large outside plastic flower pot. Good thing she didn't have puppies, the
contractions would have sent those sharp plastic pieces through her stomach
wall! Good thing the wire didn't pass or we wouldn't have known, since
plastic didn't show on the xrays. She is young and healthy and she should
be okay. Now we just have to pray for no infection I got home about
midnight. We always stay with our dogs during surgery and while they wake
up. I went into surgery with her and Pat paced the floor down the
hall. I just called the vet’s and she is doing okay this morning.
She is still on heavy pain meds. They will try her on water this evening.<span
