font-family:Arial'>My favorite tick story has to do with a very sweet basset
girl that I picked up for rescue. Basically her owner was just tired of
her and had left her and another dog outside for a long time. He said
when the other dog was given away Jenny got really mopey and he decided to give
her away too. We got her after trying for weeks to get through to the
phone number on the “free to a good home” ad. Jenny was the
saddest dog I had seen for a while. She had not been abused, just ignored,
yet for an affectionate basset, that is abuse. We got her home and
started to check her out. My husband and I are squeamish city folk and we
were dismayed to find Jenny covered in ticks. So the assembly line
began. One by one I plucked the ticks off with a tweezers, placed them in
a glass jar and handed them to my husband who carried them over to the sink and
individually burned each one. We lost count at about 25 ticks…
Next little Jenny went off to the bathtub where after several rounds of later
with anti-flea shampoo she emerged several shapes lighter. Later at the
vet, I remember anxiously waiting for her blood work and we were so relieved to
hear that she did not have heartworm or any tick diseases. She did have a
mild heart murmur.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

font-family:Arial'>I have many fond memories of Jenny. We tracked her
original breeder with the help of Leslie of Montana rescue but the decision was
made to adopt her through our rescue since the breeder was now many states
away. Miss Jenny was quickly adopted and is now being properly pampered and
loved as the little princess she was meant to be. It is a very happy ending.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
