<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" ><tr><td valign="top" style="font: inherit;">I don't think anyone should feel bad if their basset, or other scent hound, actually&nbsp;kills another small animal. It is in their breed and instinct to do so. They are hunters, along with the beagles, coonhounds, etc.&nbsp;My beagle and bluetick coonhound are definitely hunters, especially the coonhound. The bassets fit into this category as well. That is why the nose is to the ground. I don't encourage them to stalk out and run down rodents or other small animals, but they want do it anyway, anytime we step outside. I would never punish them if they actually caught something. It is who they are and what they were bred to be. </td></tr></table><br>
