Years and years ago a freind of m ine and I attended an obedience seminar
put on by a then big name in obedience who had I think either german
shepherds or border collies (surprise!)  anyway, I had a basset wi th
me and m y friend had her mastiff with her.  Of course while the
golden retrievers were all bouncing around saying "OK mom, what can I
do for you next?  Tell me what to do", our dogs were spending
their time figuring out if there was anything worthwhile in it for them
and if there wasn't a better way to do  it.  During one question
and answer period, my friend asked a question pretaining to a problem she
was having with a training issue with her other dog at home.  the
instructor asked " is that a Mastiff too?"   My friend
said "no, she's a basset hound."  the instrctor all but
sneered and said, in all seriousness "Well, first yhou need to get a
REAL dog".  We never want to another one of her seminars.<br
