Hi,

I am hoping that someone maybe able to lend some advice for our two year old Maggie. Starting in August our basset started to get itchy armpits along with lips, which she ended up scratching bloody raw.

We took her to our vet who first thought it was a skin infection. After a course of steroids and antibiotics it seem to calm down slightly. However, after completing this treatment it came right back. We then took her back to the vet to be told maybe it was an allergy, which we are having a hard time believing as nothing in her life has changed. After questioning the vet a few weeks later due to no relief she stated it could possibly be a yeast infection. She prescribed some medicated pads to rub on her armpits, however this too has not provided any relief.

I have seen hot spots on other dogs in the past, however this does not seem to be exactly the same. Most of the time her armpits and lips are bright pink, and look to be a bit inflamed from her scratching. We have tried baths, hot spot spray, etc. but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Jeff
