Hi all! I am not a frequent poster but felt
the need to post about what is happening here. Some of you may remember
that we are the family that is fostering Kroozer, the 12 year old with
Hemangiosarcoma that is thunder phobic...he came to us here in PA from Florida
to live out what is left of his life in peace where there are NO
STORMS! He is living here with my Harry....my baby boy who is not
only my first Basset but my first dog. He is my heart....my
companion....my comfort. Well, earlier in the week I noticed some small
blood drops on the comforter and assumed it was our boy Kroozer. He has
some skin issues on his belly that look like they occasionally seep so I
just checked him out and all seemed well. Friday night, my Harry
came up in the middle of the night to be boosted into bed with us and
Saturday morning when I woke up, I pulled back the covers and found my boy
drenched in blood. Obviously panicked, I rushed downstairs to call the vet
and found blood everywhere....his bed was soaked, blood on the floor and a trail
all the way up the steps. After cleaning him off the best I could, I found
a mass on his stomach that I had never seen before and it was bleeding. It
kind of looked like a volcano with a large crater on top that was the source of
the bleeding. We went to the vet and they tried every thing they could to
stop the bleeding...they cauterized, they used surgical gauze that is used to
close wounds....but nothing worked. So my Harry went into surgery and had
the mass removed and the wound closed. It was sent for a biopsy and we
have to wait seven long excruciating days until we find out if it's the dreaded
C word. I am so scared. I check my boys regularly and had not seen
the mass as recently as Monday so it seems to have just "appeared" in a
week. Has anyone out there ever heard of such a thing?
