<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I thought I would update everyone on the 63+
bassets whose number is expected to increase by transport day.
Friday GGBR and volunteers </FONT><FONT size=2 face=Arial>are set to try to take
out all the houndies except the 14 that have ready been taken in to
rescue. We could really use some drool and prayers that this rescue goes
smoothly.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The cost to rescue these bassets is soaring.
Last Friday a group of very wonderful volunteers (Thank You so much!) went
out to catalogue, vaccinate and worm all those not found to be
ill. A few were found to have giardia and coccidiosis and are now
being isolated and tested. What this means is they will all have to
be tested as both these illnesses can spread like wildfire. One
of the basset was found to have glaucoma and they all have ear infections.
Many of the middle aged and older bassets were found to be in need of serious
dentals. All these kidz are going to need labs and heartworm
testing. I am praying that GGBR doesn't have heartworm postive
bassets. I know that though the area this kennel is in does not have the
highest incidence of heartworms in the nation, they are still here because
of the winter rains. I know that this breeder has/had livestock and
water troughs which are a breeding heaven for mosquitos.</FONT></DIV><FONT
size=2 face=Arial>

<DIV>"These hounds will need some very intensive TLC... they are not
house-trained (although they are used to using doggie doors to get between their
indoor/outdoor runs), not leash-trained, and a little timid due to limited
socialization with humans. Patti reported that although a little skittish,
they were easy to handle with no signs of fear aggression, so we think they'll
warm up quickly with a few days of love and care.</DIV>
<P>Fosters, adopters, transport volunteers... are all needed, in addition to
monetary donations.</P>
<P>If anyone has connections with companies who could donate supplies for the
new foster homes (beds, dog bowls, crates, leashes/collars) or medications -
flea and heartworm preventative, heartworm tests, lab services, antibiotics
etc. Any vet clinics who could donate a spay or neuter surgery... please
contact us urgently! "</P>
<P>I do want to personally thank everyone who has donated. Nelly Belle and
I are so very grateful for all the donations that have been made to
help her basset family to safety. Our job is just beginning here as
we have to work towards the monumental goal of getting them healthy so that
they can find their Furever Homes. If you have a little spare drool for
these droolers we would appreciate it. I have my gang putting drool in
storage for them.</P>

<P align=left>We are a little busy trying to get the house set up for our two
new fosters, Chloe basset who is visiting for the holidays and my daughter
coming from Illinois. Boy am I happy that she is coming. I hope
she cooks and learns how to walk bassets. Please
know that we are thinking and sending drool to all of those in need though we
may not have time to personally send a note. You are all in our thoughts
and prayers.</P></FONT></BODY></HTML>
