<DIV>since his gotcha day on October 1, gus has slept in his bed right next to
mine. i have an antique bed that is VERY high. i sometimes wonder if
someday i'll need a step to get up to it, it is very high. well, one
morning, after waking me up with his paws scampering across the top of the
edge of the bed, he backed up and took a flying leap and made it up. so
after a few minutes of bellyrubs, we got up. but the leap off is a bIg one
and i worried that it could hurt him. so at the end of my bed, i put an
ottoman and stacked some comforters on it and showed him the way down. he
never considered it as a way up and that was fine with me.</DIV>
<DIV>recently, on the weekends, when i love a nap, he has leapt up with me and i
let him stay up for our nap.</DIV>
<DIV>at night, when we go into the pitch black bedroom, he goes straight to his
bed, me to mine. but on the weekends, as i said, i'd let him up.</DIV>
<DIV>well, this morning in Massachusetts it is bitter cold with wind gusting 50
mph and snow blowing all over the place. when i put him out at 5:30, i
felt so terrible for him, having to go out and do his business in this horrible
weather. so when he came back in, we went back into the bedroom and he
used the "shortcut" to get up to the bed and there he stayed, burying his nose
in all the blankets and swaddled like an infant.</DIV>
<DIV>ok, so we get up for breakfast, and dessert, which he expects and then i
put my tea on and he usually goes to the couch for the first of his naps.
i come to computer, drink my tea and realize i don't hear him getting
comfortable on the couch. so i go to look for him, and well, you know the
rest.</DIV>
<DIV>i can't let him up there all night, as he takes up so much room, but i've
got a feeling he has other ideas.</DIV>
<DIV>so you could say i've created a monster. any downside to letting him
sleep there all night?</DIV>

<DIV>Gus-that shortcut is pretty good. my new years resolution is I AM
GOING TO SLEEP IN MOM'S BED FROM NOW ON!!</DIV>
