<DIV>I tried doing it by hand-too much work. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond with
one of those 20% off coupons and got a mandolin slicer by Oneida (29.99) before
coupon. They also had a cheap looking one for 9.99 and a couple of pricey ones.
It took a little figuring because the directions are basically a photograph but
I have figured out the best setting to get perfect chips. I can slice up a half
dozen whole sweet potatoes in less than 5 minutes. You have to
handle it carefully though because unlike a knife, the blade actually takes a
chunk out of you if you touch it. With this one you also get 3 bonus blades to
create various sized jullienned veggies. I used the largest one and made myself
sweet potato fries the other night. Why should the bassets get all the good
stuff?!</DIV>
