I am not trying to cause trouble here but I have to say that I
took some offense at some of the posts blaming the recent surge in cases of
pancreatitis in the basset world. Most posters seem to think it is due to
an increase in giving our kids "people food" over the Holidays and that is
just not always the case. We got Rocky and Lexie when they were about 6
months old and the only people food they had ever had was canned green beans
with no salt added with their meals, baby carrots for treats, and maybe 4-5
times a year they would get a pizza bone or two. Otherwise they were on
Science Diet light food all of the time and I think that we were very
responsible in feeding them correctly. Lexie got acute pancreatitis last
July and after coming home from 10 days or so in the hospital, we lost her the
next day. Rocky had an attack of pancreatitis last July, spent a couple of
days in the hospital, and then switched to a Prescription Diet LD on the
advice of his vet. He also is taking a prescription for his liver and was
doing fine until he had to go back to the emergency hospital on Christmas Day
with another attach of pancreatitis and came home on the 29th with a switch to
Royal Canin low fat diet which they say is the lowest fat dog food out
there.

To read that they have both been in great pain from the
pancreatitis attacks is our fault because of the way we feed them was
very disturbing. I have always enjoyed reading the Daily Drool and
occasionally posting with questions or information, but this has not been a good
time for me to be reading the posts. I am taking a break for a few issues
hoping that this topic will die down and then I can get back to reading the
posts that I enjoy.
