My boy Waldo developed epilepsy about 6 months ago. He had had what we now realize was some small seizures before, but then one weekend, he had two really major seizures. He was otherwise healthy. So, off we went to the emergency vet where they ran tests to make sure there was not something causing the seizures. He came back clean and healthy, so they started him on phenobarbitol and he hasn't had a seizure since. He tolerates the meds well, he has been his normal self. One side effect is weight gain, but we have made sure that hasn't happened by increasing exercise and watching portions. We think Waldo is probably 7, he was a rescue, and is enjoying a healthy, happy life on phenobarb. One word of wisdom, take your script to a people pharmacy for much cheaper meds. Vets office charged 3x as much as I can get at my hospital's outpatient pharmacy.

Hope Archie does as well as Waldo has. It can be very scary to watch them seize.
Jeanine Botkin

Mar 21, 2010 03:52:54 PM, dailydrool@dailydrool.org wrote:
