We used to spell o-u-t, then he knew what that meant. Then we spelled it backwards; t-u-o, and he knew what that meant. Then we made up something totally bazaar like q-p-r and he knew what THAT meant. Don't underestimate the intelligence of these four legged creatures. At times I believe that they are smarter than humans at so many levels!!!!!

Does anyone else have to routinely spell out words around their dogs? I have to when we go on a W-A-L-K, or go to the P-A-R-K. I do this to communicate with the other two leggers, but I think the dogs know what I am talking about anyway. As soon as they hear the leashes or the car keys being picked up, it's a mad dash for the door.

I got tired of that, so I made them go into the laundry room first (which is next to the garage), and WAIT for me while I collect my things, and then we put on the L-E-A-S-H-E-S in a calm manner. At the beginning, they whinned being in the laundry room with the door closed for a whopping one or two minutes. Now, they wait patiently until I'm ready. It's amazing what they will do for a good walk in the park!
