<DIV>I had a long-haired foster a couple of months ago. They are very striking dogs. The long hair is a recessive gene that is occasionally expressed. Apparently they cannot always predict it as there have been litters where all will be regular, short-haired and will have one sibling with long hair. It is considered a fault, for show purposes, but they are basset, nonetheless.</DIV>

I actually ran into a long-haired basset once here in Missouri. Can anyone tell me, is long hair a considered a fault? How is a long-haired basset produced?
