I've been all over the web looking for answers - silly me - I should have came right to the DD first.

My Sophie seems to have allergy's.

I've been down this road with my last crew of bassets.

They were constantly scratching - I thought they had fleas, but never found one flea on any of them.

Figuring I had smart fleas with super hiding abilities, I gassed the house.... and the dogs still scratched. What?!? Do these fleas own gas masks?

At the time I subscribed to a holistic pet news letter that said if you have fleas in your carpets use some sort of herbal powder that is nontoxic to kill the fleas.

Sounds good to me!

They gave 800 numbers as to where to get said herbal powder - and I started calling.

I called one of the numbers, which was an upscale dog food company called Solid Gold. I asked for the powder - which they didn't have. I was ready to hang up, but the very nice lady at the other end talked to me awhile about what my problem was - fleas of course.

She had a hunch it was an allergy to what I was feeding my dogs - and described to the letter what was happening, just like she was here. I changed over my dogs food to theirs and never had itching problems again. The crew all lived to be very old, and very healthy - worth every penny.

After all three went to the Bridge - it was a few years till I could deal with the thought of another Basset - as the thought of dealing with loss again was unbearable.

But a few years went by - the house smelled waaaay to good - there wasn't fur all over all my clothing, and no fur balls rolling across my kitchen floor like tumbleweeds. In short life just wasn't right.....

So I got Baby Sophie - and God was in his heaven once again. And of course - went right to the same lamb and rice Solid Gold the other crew ate, and did so well on but the puppy version. The puppy food didn't seem to agree with her, so I put her on the adult version the others ate.

She started to scratch - just like she had fleas - just like the other crew did. Soooo.... I've tried several foods - some with no grain at all, the scratching was the worst with this one, called ancestral diet herring and salmon.

I've tried to talk to a couple different vets about this - but I just got a stupid look from both of them. One even fessed up "I don't know anything about food allergy's" - at least he was honest.

Does anyone else have this problem? How did you handle it? I would be very grateful for any help you can give, and so would Sophie.

~Thanks Vikki
