Not entirely Basset related altho I had Bassets at the time: ordered Fel Leuk vaccines through the mail, also intranasal Kennel cough for the Bassets ---THERE! See? Basset related!!!

Anyway started to give the vax to kitty (Arsenal) who was about as mellow as they make them, and he screamed and shot off the table. Then began to vomit.

Dumbo(me) called the Vet to ask if this were an allergic response, got a new Vet (superdumbo-- someday i will tell you all about him he got fired shortly after this) and he said no kitty being a wuss.

Kitty proceeded to shoot all over the house screaming and vomiting and having diarrhea and when he got into the litter box and did all three at once I wrapped him in a towel (having some brains of my own now and then) and rushed him in. It seems that sitting in the COLD-- this was winter-- and probably freezing-- had changed the protein in the vaccine and nearly killed my cat. Needless to say, Doc was highly annoyed with me.

THIS, he bellowed, IS WHY YOU PAY ME TO DO THIS!!! BECAUSE I KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THE VACCINES!!!!

And yes, forever after, I have never given another vaccine, and that kitty had Fe Leuk vaccines at the Vets and was just fine after that.

So I second the motion to be very very careful ordering vaccines through the mail.
