<DIV>Greetings all - </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>It's been pretty hectic here at the ranch over the alst couple of week, I
got away for a few days and now Rita is on vacation, 5 adoptions last weekend
and the 3 intakes from Inland Valley Humane arrived (Thank you Lesley and Linda
for getting these babies on in!!) - today was a vet run.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Princess & Precious finally got their check up and all went well.</DIV>
<DIV>Flash the Golden Basset was on this run.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Flash came to the ranch via Pasadena Humane. A stray, he's been a lug
of a guy, always wagging his tail - picking the odd grumble with intact males
and his dislike of Phil from the start. A good boy he had a growth on his
face. We took him on in for what we thought was a typical growth removal,
possibly abcess and dental - and to all of our surprise it turned out to be
cancer. Dr. Kim biopsied it, and pathology came back as nerve shunt
carcinoma. Malignant, fast growing and no treatment. Flash has been on the
"Anything he wants" plan for the last 8 weeks, the tumor continued to grow, yet
he ate his canned food and strachan provided chicken just fine. Tail
wagging he would LOVE to sunbathe, roll in anything stinky and to sit on my foot
as we gaze at the stars at close down. Flash the feisty guy was slowing
down.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>We all agreed as soon as he showed signs of pain we would make a decision,
and that happened on Monday, pain meds to make sure it wasn't short lived were
approved by Dr. Kim - and today we went on our last car ride. Flash loves
to sit co-pilot and he woofed greetings at truckers and passengers alike - if
you happened to be on the road today and saw me driving the transport van with
the gentle golden basset in the co-pilot seat - I hope you know Flash was saying
howdy. The policeman who ahd flashing lights was laughing as he pulled us over
to give Flash a stern "Stay seated young man". Nope, didn;t pull us over
for a ticket, just a hound lover who had to say hi. Flash LOVED him.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Stopping at In & Out Flash and the girls enjoyed burgers - well, Flash
enjoyed his double double and chocolate shake - the girls were a bit miffed as
they dined on hamburger.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>And Dr. Kim, the angel he always is - helped him to the bridge while I held
and sang to him.</DIV>
<DIV>Flash and I talked about all the great things he'll do at the bridge - I
think they just might be serving ribs on the bone, maybe some barbecued chicken
- definitely chocolate cake at the brownie bar tonight - as close down happens
under the velvet country sky - I'll watch for that flashing light - the one that
says "Mom, I made it - I'm running free!" or maybe it's the Rainbow Bridge
policeman - giving Flash the grand welcome.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>It always hurts to say goodbye to our kids.....</DIV>
<DIV>Flash had a good life here, he was loved and had a huge family to call his
own. We always hope each furkid will find a whole family to themselves, to
love and cherish - sometimes we are that family. It makes all the daily
aches and pains worth it, when we say Flash was one of ours. </DIV>
