<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Lois, I hear the same thing about my boys.
"those are some active hounds, I thought bassets were lazy?" Unfortunetly
I think that between this misconception and the fact that bassets are
independent thinkers, and stubborn, I'll do it if I want to attitudes is why so
many are given up. People see them as puppies and only think of just
how cute they are and are not prepared to deal with 1. the responsibilities of
owning an animal in general, and 2. the high energy, and free thinking of this
breed. </FONT><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I think that my husband is right; that
people should have to go through a class on what it takes to be a responsible
pet owner in order to be able to have a pet. Crazy thing is that my best
friend that works in the school system thinks the same thing about people having
children. She hers from parents all the time, "if I knew that having kids
was this much work I probably wouldn't have had them" The world has lost a
valuable asset...Ladies and Gentlemen Common Sense has not only left the
building but has left the world!"</FONT></DIV>
