To be honest, I don't really have to do much of anything - because he can't hear, Basil is a velcro dog, always insisting that he be within sight of me. So I never worry about needing to get his attention, or him getting away from me. </font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">That said, a friend has a deaf dog who really does like to roam the park. She found this little remote-controlled vibrating thingie on an elastic band that goes around his belly like a belt. When she needs to "call" him, she clicks the remote and he feels the
vibrations. Obviously she needed to do quite a bit of training, and the remote control does have a limited range, but it does work. I can't remember what the device is called, and don't even know if it's specifically designed for dogs. This is a question for all you Basset owners......Do you have a DEAF Basset?? Not just a regular Basset that hears and still ignores you but one that is completely without hearing. A friend of mine is working with her deaf Boxer and was wondering how you work with your Basset in a social atmosphere with other dogs (such as the off-lead picnic at the Waddle). Do you let it completely free or do you just keep them on a long lead so you can get their attention.</span></font><br><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12pt;">
