always adopted adult or senior hounds and have had several that were severely
abused, too. If you only got Mabel in January and she came from a puppy
mill and then went through 3 homes – I'd say the poor girl is doing her
best to adjust and fit in. When they have the background that she does,
it takes them longer to settle in and understand what is okay and what isn't,
they're so used to being bounced around that they expect it to happen again.
I've always noticed that there's a certain point when a rescue dog decides that
they are staying, this is home, if you pay close attention you can see it in their
demeanor and behavior, and I doubt if Mabel has gotten to that point yet.
It does sound like she likes it there and wants to stay and is trying.
Give her time and love and keep reinforcing the good behavior and give some
sharp NOs to the bad behavior and it will be okay. In the meantime it
sounds like you are on the right track, I'd just take Maggie upstairs first,
then take Mabel up. It will sort itself out once she feels more
secure and safe. Once she decides she is home<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

the way, that bit about not having several females is a bunch of bull in my
opinion. I have three girls here, all senior rescues, and they get along
fine. And I know of many people who have all females or all males in
their pack and it works well. We are a very calm and laid-back household,
probably because that also describes me, and I demand that everyone get along
and be nice. It's kind of like kids, some people let their kids be mean
and nasty to each other, some people do not tolerate it. The kids figure
this out real quickly and behave accordingly. So do the dogs and cats.
Mabel will be fine in a few more months. Hang in there Mabel!!<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
