<DIV>I've had a lot of folks write me privately and ask for updates on Abner.</DIV>

<DIV>Well, he is certainly peeing well, despite the huge tumor and whatever else is going on. Nothing has impeded that function at all. But he does seem to be in pain. When he went down the ramp just a few minutes ago, he was not happy. Coming up the ramp is probably worse. But it did rain a lot today, so part of the problem could be that the indoor-outdoor carpet on the ramp is a bit slicker than he'd like. Bel is not keen on it either, and I have been thinking about what I could use to replace it.</DIV>

<DIV>Abs hasn't had dinner yet, but so far the appetite, especially for treats, remains strong.</DIV>

<DIV>He tends to spend his days lying down, with few movements. He's not keen on getting up and does so with discomfort. Last night he seemed perkier for a while, but today he's back to just relaxing.</DIV>

<DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I will call the vet in the AM and see what he says. If he increases the pred dose, I may go insane, since my floors are already just flooded. But the vet did warn me that he might have to do that before getting results.</DIV>

<DIV>The vet tech whom I spoke to today indicated that the vet's been very concerned about Abner. He is trying the less critical things first, because he does not want to jump to conclusions about Abs' cancer. Somehow I would not be surprised if the problem is either with his back or the arthritis. He's been holding his tail down even before this, which is often a sign of back trouble. But since the arthritis is in his back, too, it's hard to tell what the problem really is. He's also using one leg as a kickstand (thanks someone on the Drool for describing it that way; it's just a perfect description), but that too could be either problem. Bel's arthritis causes him to do it too.</DIV>
