<html><head><style type="text/css"><!-- DIV {margin:0px;} --></style></head><body><div style="font-family:'times new roman', 'new york', times, serif;font-size:12pt"><div>Good morning all and happy Mothers Day,</div><div><br></div><div>I have an idea for Ada. Now most people know I have lots of experience with rescue Labs ... Snoopy is my first basset. I've had some Labs (and other fosters) that just didn't know how to conduct themselves in my home. I usually leashed them to myself. Seriously. Depending on the size of the dog I'd either run the leash around my waist (putting the clip end through the handle and then attaching it to the collar ... or for a smaller dog you can use a belt loop. Either way:</div><div><br></div><div>1) You know what the dog it up to</div><div>2) Destruction is minimized</div><div>3) The dog is getting socialized (actually, this results in a sort of bonding)</div><div>4)
The dog doesn't seem to view this as punishment ... after all not only are they tied to you, but you are also tied to them. So other dogs in the house can't tease them about it, actually, they seem sort of jealous.</div><div><br></div><div>I hope that with time, patience and love Ada will be a real joy. For now, I expect you are looking to get through this rough patch so you can enjoy her.</div><div><br></div><div>Best,</div><div>Dale</div><div style="font-family:times new roman, new york, times, serif;font-size:12pt"><div style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:13px"><br></div><div style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:13px"><br></div><div style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:13px"><br></div><div style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:13px"><br>I gave Ada a treat that goes over really really well here, those granola crusted busy bones, to keep her busy while
I continue to prep for the movers (OMG... 2 more days!). All goes somewhat well. I've taken to keeping her leashed to the massive pine coffee table if there is any chance of me opening the front door. So just to be the little character that she is, grabs all the cat beds and piles them around her and grabs the biggest bone she can find after the busy bone has disappeared.<br>Of course she dared me to take a picture:<br><span><a target="_blank" href="http://krausdesigns.com/images/Dogs/IMG_0858a.JPG">http://krausdesigns.com/images/Dogs/IMG_0858a.JPG</a></span><br><span><a target="_blank" href="http://krausdesigns.com/images/Dogs/IMG_0859a.JPG">http://krausdesigns.com/images/Dogs/IMG_0859a.JPG</a></span><br><br>The next morning I woke up to the sound of a screaming chick that had gotten loose in the yard and a really nasty smell.... Lets just say that busy bone didn't agree with Ada! Yuck. I finally get the crate
cleaned and decide to turn the hose of little miss stinky but she wasn't having it. I eventually slipped a lead on her, dragged her filthy dirty butt back inside and to the tub where it takes a half hour to clean her off.<br>She sits in the spare crate to dry off for an hour or so but instead of laying on the nice big poofy dry towel she bunches it up in the corner. The second I let her out for a pee break she dives into the first pile of sand she can. Back to being a dirty dog. I'm thinking she doesn't do clean.<br><br>Today she decided that she needed to attempt to pull the coffee table with her, she got it about 3 feet closer to the table. Close enough for her to jump on a chair and proceed to knock everything off the kitchen table then sit there like she owned it!<br><br>I'm telling ya...... she's going to be a fun one.<br><br>I'm worried about her hearing. It's obvious she has very limited hearing on one side but
I'm thinking it's not that good on the other either. She's learning the hand signals really well but totally ignores anything verbal unless I raise my voice. Which does happen a lot around here with this herd, I have a partially deaf and completely annoying cat that gets yelled at all the time. When she does hear me she cowers and does the whole submissive pee thing.<br><br>Carmen and herd<br><br>_______________________________________________<br>Dailydrool mailing list<br><a ymailto="mailto:Dailydrool@lists.dailydrool.org" href="mailto:Dailydrool@lists.dailydrool.org">Dailydrool@lists.dailydrool.org</a><br><span><a target="_blank" href="http://lists.dailydrool.org/listinfo.cgi/dailydrool-dailydrool.org">http://lists.dailydrool.org/listinfo.cgi/dailydrool-dailydrool.org</a></span><br></div></div><div style="position:fixed"></div>
