Recently, she had not responded to my last email and now I know why. She fought her cancer with an optimistic spirit and that probably kept her going for a long while. I wrote to her sister and asked permission to post an address to send cards to the family as a couple of people had asked me where to send a card. Below is her reply to me - please consider sending a card to Donna's family. I am finding droolers and quilters to be the kindest people on earth. Donna had actually signed up for the Waddle, ever optimistic that if she just tried hard enough, she could keep living on. But early in May she was growing tired and weak and just could try no longer. Already too weak to walk, she was signed into hospice on May 16 and declined fairly rapidly from there. She was at home and her husband shouldered most of the load with me providing relief 3 days a week. Her husband is "computer illiterate" and so I have been poking around on the computer trying to find her friends. (but when I was over there today, I came in the door and walked right past a sleeping Bubba who never woke up) However, Pepper, the chow-shepherd mix is struggling with old age and walking on 3 legs due to repeated knee injuries. The bassets are part of Donna's husband's support group, for years he has taken them for a daily walk in one of our local metro parks.
