She is completely off the sedation (Propofol) and has been having trials off the ventilator. These trials involve removing her from the ventilator and putting her on a CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) for increasingly longer periods of time. Today she was on the CPAP for 10 continuous hours. This afternoon and through the night they are going to alternate 4 hours on and 4 hours off to allow her to rest. Her level of awareness is definitely increased and she is clearly upset by the tubes. She is moving her head, arms and legs but not responding to commands. This is worrisome. They will be doing another brain scan in the morning. Tomorrow they are going to try to extubate her. This is very scary stuff … truly a “do or die” moment. I will be present when they do this.
