I still haven't received my calendar from Cecil Graphics. My emailed has failed to send 3 times. I left one phone message and now cannot leave a message. What is going on? Did they take the money and run? This is ridiculous, I sent my picture and money so long ago. Now we're a week into January 2012 and I still don't have my calendar. I'm never ordering this calendar again through Cecil Graphics!<br>

I have a purple Dyson Animal, and love, love, love it. Because we have lots<br>
of carpet and also huge area rugs, and Dysons are totally awesome on large<br>
rugs and carpeting. But if you have hard surface floors, save your money,<br>
the Dysons are not all that great on hard surfaces. And never, ever try to<br>
sweep a small rug (like a bathroom rug) with a Dyson because the suction is<br>
so strong that it will eat the rug. Unless of course you need an excuse to<br>
buy new bathroom rugs. In which case the Dyson is your friend. Use it on a<br>
bath rug and you'll be looking for a new one tomorrow. I have tall trash<br>
cans that have lids and just empty the canister into them and then clean the<br>
lid every couple of empties. Of course I freely admit to not being Suzie<br>
Homemaker. Good enough is the best you get around here!<br>

I have not posted on this site for several years as have had 2 jobs going at<br>
once...both as a?nurse and a watercolorist...but enjoyed lurking from time to<br>
time and give thanks to those who have helped me through my first Basset's,<br>
Chewy, puppyhood.<br>

It is with profound grief and sorrow to say that Chewy went to the Bridge at<br>
3:40 pm on 1/3/12 after 2 weeks of first developing disk disease and then<br>
developing severe?abdominal pain on Monday night?that could not be controlled<br>
even with Morphine. There was no definitive cause.<br>
<br>
His death was just as beautiful as his life as he slipped peacefully away in my<br>
arms while lying next to me.?? He did not tolerate pain well and was tired of<br>
having the pain that had suddenly developed the night before.<br>
<br>
He has been a loving and faithful companion to both me and his ever-present<br>
friend, Luke who misses him as much as I do.<br>
<br>
The house will never be the same without that life force which brough so much<br>
joy to so many.??<br>
<br>
<br>
Sleep well, my angel, and be at peace....you will be in my heart until my dying<br>
day.<br>

I haven't found one I really love yet.My Oreck use to get so bogged down with dog hair (that you couldn't see on the carpet) that each use required me to sit down on the floor and empty the hose because it didn't suck it into the bag,at least twice before I thought I got it all. I had two dogs.<br>

I have loved my old purple?Dyson since the moment I got it. But I understand why some people say it doesn't vacuum well. Sometimes those nasty things that find their way to the floor get caught in its system. That's why you can take this vacuum apart, clean it out, and put it together again!<br>
?<br>
If the suction seems to be weak, I pull it apart (you should find which parts come off in the manual that came with the vacuum) and check to see if a lump of fur and whatever is blocking the way. If the hose is blocked up, I take a straightened-out wire hanger with a small?hook bent into the end and clear the path--be careful with that hook, so you don't cut into the hose. In short order, the Dyson is suctioning up everything but the dogs!<br>
?<br>
I love the Dyson because it has good suctioning power and because there's a way to clean it out pretty easily. It's the only thing that keeps my house within a yard of respectability.<br>
?<br>
Oh, and if you don't want the yuckies on the floor, take a large plastic bag. Put the entire round tube that holds the?yuckies into the bag. Release the trigger. Shake a? bit if necessary, while the tube is still in the bag. Remove the tube part, if necessary, to get at anything left on the purple thing in the middle.?Voila! No mess. Tie up the bag. Toss it out?in the garbage.?Put the tube back together. You don't have to waste time or money on getting and buying bags.<br>
?<br>
The only less-than-perfect part is that my Dyson vac is heavy. Perhaps some of the newer models weigh less. If Dyson hasn't worked on this problem, they need to. But a really well-built, sturdy machine is likely to be a bit heavier than the cheap knockoff.<br>
?<br>
I was told by a vacuum guy that you can buy those cheaper copies of the Dyson but that they are not likely to keep the suction as well (maybe they can't be taken apart and cleaned). I have never had my Dyson repaired or tuned up, but if the machine didn't work, I'd take it in for a tune-up.<br>
?<br>
I guess you either love a Dyson or don't. Mine is so much better than the previous vacuums I had that I hope it lasts forever--or until Dyson has a lighter version that I can afford.<br>

Just to set the record straight, as Yahoo's breeder and one who loves him and misses him, it was appropriate for FeyFey to post of his passing over the bridge. FeyFey is related to Yahoo and knows him and his pack that has gone before him very well.?FeyFey knew I wouldn't post of his passing, so she did it for me. No intention to upset elder Clara. If anyone's going to be offended, it should be me because people are complaining that I didn't post about my sick dog and that's why all of this upset has happened. Oh how awful the post was to Elder Clara and oh by the way, sorry about your dog.<br>
Let's all remember, it was FeyFey who started posting about hounds going over the bridge, with descriptions of their welcome. It was her job from the beginning. Don't recall Fey complaining when Clara starting doing it too.? Let's all move on.<br>

This is mom slave to Beauford and Bugsey. First off, I have noticed over the years that the first aid kit for humans and the first aid kit for dogs seem to be getting more and more similar as the years go by. I am not really sure what that says about me. Of course ours has more bandaids-large, extra large and giant. I don't manage to do anything small. As I age (and for the record I am only in my 40's), I find my skin thinning and bleeding at the littlest thing. It reminds me too much of my father-in-law. Anyway, don't forget the iodine and the vet wrap. It is amazing to me how many really wicked wounds can wait until morning if you spray them down with iodine, put gauze pads (or kleenex, not exactly kosher, but it works) and wrap the whole thing up with vet wrap. Vet wrap works great for humans too.<br>

Now on to color and toys. I realize that technically our dogs don't see in color. Some of the latest reports have corrected that and say they are really more like red/green color blind. Either way, my question stands? Do your dogs seem to favor a certain color of toy? I haven't noticed that Beauford prefers a certain color over another. If you can pounce on it and shake it, he is good with it. If he can make his brother upset by stealing the toy and pouncing on it and shaking it so much the better.<br>

Bugsey cares. He seems to prefer pink toys, then red and orange. I am not sure what this says about his manliness, but he is neutered, so who cares. He has two pink bunnies, a pink pig, a pink dragon and a red lizard that are firnly in "favorite" status. For Christmas I got him a blue dragon like his pink dragon so he would have one when the pink one was being washed. He could care less. He also has a blue eel that is shaped a lot like his lizard, but he doesn't drag it all around the house. Has anyone else noticed the same thing?<br>

As someone who cleans houses for a living ,may I suggest that you try a Miele . Any model you can afford, ( as they are not cheap )you will never complain or look back except to say ,WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG !I have used many and nothing compares to a Miele ! Test drive one today .<br>

It is unfortunate that the Basset Hound today has such a high incident of cancer.I can guarantee , that if you have not had to deal with cancer yet, at some point ,you will, as long as you have Bassets. Learn where your dog's lymphnodes are,one under each side of the neck (like where your Dr.feels for yours),one on each side of the arm pits,and one on each rear leg midway up the back of the leg., Check these occasionally, more often if your dog is older,(5 years and up), if they are enlarged your dog may have something as serious as cancer or just an infection. Practice feeling them so you know what is normal then you will know if they are ever abnormal.The easiest ones to feel are the ones on the rear legs above the hocks,they feel like little lima beans. 2. Know what a normal temperature is for a dog. 101' to 102.5' Use a rectal thermometer,unless you have one of the ear thermometers<br>
. 3. Never,never allow a sick dog to get vaccinations.Tell your Vet to wait till the animal is feeling better then he may have them.To give them will only compromise an already compromised immune system. 4. Keep Kaopectate,and Imodium handy to help with diarrhea and upset stomachs.Pepto-Bismol is ok too, but, BEWARE ! you will be wearing the pink stuff and the walls will be splattered as well. If you can, use a 5 cc syringe,without needle, of course , fill the syringe with Pepto or Kaopectate put into the corner of the mouth while holding the jaw partially closed,squirt quick, and stand back. You should be able to get more in than out. Once every 12 hours.If they are still vomiting or have diarrhea after 24 hours ,see a Vet. 5. Peroxide should be on hand in case your dog ingests something he shouldn't,like chocolate, anything else call poison control ,there are substances you should not induce vomiting for since it can cause damage on the way back up. At some point I can<br>
probably add more or others can add as they see fit but this should help. I am not a Vet ,I have worked for Vets in the past but much of this I've learned from raising puppies, just having dogs in general ,and from good breeders in my past. Not all Vets know Bassets well, if yours doesn't, teach him the quirks of the breed, he'll be better off for it. Vickie Zehring<br>

Lady Penny (I had to google the proper way to address a countess), my deepest apologies for my error.? Obviously I did not have my brain turned on - or I didn't want to admit how old we have all gotten.? It's hard to believe that it has been almost 14 years since Pwincess Sadie and I waddled in Michigan.? We returned home to Tennessee on the first anniversary of my marriage.? Yes, we are still going strong after all these years.<br>

It was just last night that I was looking again at your photo and noticed the note on the back of the card - missed it the first three times I looked at it.? I'm glad that you can carry on in the footsteps of your Auntie...she obviously left giant footprints on your mommy's heart.<br>

Even though I lurk now more than I post - I am thankful I found the Drool so many, many years ago.? It's a comfortable place to turn, especially when I feel no one around me quite understands that love I have for my animals.? Never having children myself, my animals are my children - the Drool is one place where I know other people know exactly what I mean.<br>

Well I love my dyson..I have never seen a vacuum that does as well and<br>
I will follow up your vacuuming with your favorite anyday and bet i<br>
get out more stuff...that being said they are a bit temperamental and<br>
a little messy to work correctly...most importantly you have to keep<br>
the top filter clean which i didnt even know about for years..then you<br>
have to beat it on the fence (seriously)..the key to the suction is<br>
all the little holes and they get clogged specially iffen you vacuum<br>
over anything damp..so when I vacuum my house I probably get about 3<br>
containers of hair in it (jasmine sheds like crazy and our house is<br>
dusty dusty dusty) and usually we vacuum get all the hair basically it<br>
looks done...take the center out..beat it on the fence (hard too they<br>
are tuff) and vacuum again and get almost a whole container of the<br>
dander/dust off the carpet..my sister had a janitorial company and she<br>
vacuumed my moms carpet with her 2000.00 vacuum and I went over it<br>
with my dyson and got almost a whole container from it..<br>
<br>
But the best reason I love my dyson is daddy is fascinated by the<br>
swirling hair in the container and trying to get more and more in it<br>
so he now does almost all the vacuuming hehehehhehe<br>

I loved my Dyson Animal, which cost about $449 a few years ago. The reason<br>
I loved it is that I could see all the fur being sucked into the vacuum.<br>
Than I could dump the fur out and clean the receptable. So satisfying for<br>
me, a somewhat OCD person! It was heavy and finally the plastic on the<br>
bottom cracked. We bought a Bissell for less than $350 and it works just<br>
fine. No visual for me though!<br>
