<DIV>If you can come we would love to have you! So many fun costumes on
hounds AND their people! </DIV>
<DIV> <STRONG><FONT

<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Here is a good recipe we are making tonight that is a great addition
to any Basset Buffet Table! It is pretty loose you cant go wrong! This is a cut
down sized receipe so you can just try it out. Mmmmm</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Watch out even you cat will eat these! Be sure to freeze em though in a
sealed container till needed and don't leave them out.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>1 1/2# chicken hearts (Safeway usually carried em) *see note can
also substitute 3 </DIV>
<DIV> (chicken hearts make the "cleanest"
dough. cans of
tuna in oil (a bit stinky)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>5 Garlic cloves
peeled (if your dogs like
garlic)
</DIV>
<DIV>2 Tablespoons Olive Oil</DIV>
<DIV>3/4 Cup Chicken Stock or water to start</DIV>
<DIV>1 Cup Cottage Cheese</DIV>
<DIV>1 Cup Rice Bran (or you can use wheat germ) or
both :)</DIV>
<DIV>3-5 Cups Keenwa flour (sp! ) or you can use whole-wheat
flour</DIV>
<DIV>2 Whole Eggs shell and all if you are able to
puree * I usually save all eggshells and dry them then grind
em up and use as supplement in hounds meals...so have the powdery egg shell to
add to the dog cookie recipe. You can just use the whole eggs too if you are
able to puree. If you are mixing with your hands only you can leave out </DIV>
<DIV>the egg shells if you have not dried and ground up the shells.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>In saucepan combine the chicken (or tuna with the oil) (or whatever
meat chicken livers are good too) garlic, and water (I just use enough to cover
starting out with 3/4 cup total liquid) bring to a boil then cover and simmer
until done about 10 minutes let it cool covered.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Puree the meat/garlic mixture. Add liquid from cooking and the two
eggs and the cottage cheese mix some more. You can also add more chicken
stock total liquid not more than 1 1/2 cups at the end to help with
getting it out of the mixer. Dump the rice bran and about 3 cups of the keenwa
(or flour) into a big bowl and mix a bit. Add the meat/egg/cottage cheese
mixture. Stir with dough hook or strong hands. Add more flour to make a sticky
dough. </DIV>
<DIV>*** I whip all the wet stuff together with a wire whip then squish the meat
by hand and moosh it all up together. I wrote puree it/dough hook it for
all the real cooks. :)</DIV>
<DIV>Hounds don't care if its not really well mixed. Oh yeah..I save egg shells
and let them dry and then put em in a blender...and add that and not the whole
eggs...but if you puree it then it will blend up just fine)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Now add more keenwa flour or wheat flour to make a fairly stiff
dough though sticky. Let it rest a bit. Flour a board well. Take about 1/2 the
mixture it will be somewhat sticky and smish it out flat. Dust with flour
well then roll out to 1/4 inch. Cut with a pizza cutter.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>If you want to make pretty cookies you can cut our shapes with cookie
cutters. I have found that a pizza cutter on the well floured top and bottom
dough works great. Hounds dont care.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The cookies can touch on the cookie sheet. Bake 300* for 50 or 60 minutes.
Take a look at 50 minutes and if they need another few minutes not more than 10
more minutes (total tops 60 minutes) Loosen em up with a spatula
after 50 minutes they should be done usually and then put them back
into the oven with it turned off and leave overnight IN THE OVEN. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>DO NOT LEAVE OUT ON THE COUNTER or your Houndies might cruise. IT will
continue to dry out the cookies if you leave them in the warm (light on in
oven if can) overnight. </DIV>
<DIV>DO NOT USE CALF or BEEF Meat or MACKERELL or SARDINES IT WILL STINK TOO
MUCH!!! as substitute for the chicken hearts or livers (tuna is
OK ...choke) lol The Hounds don't mind..but its a killer liver meat smell
if you use that beef) TRUELY A WARNING BECAUSE THE BEEF
IS SMELLY.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>* If you use tuna the cooking time will be less about 45 minutes at
300*</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>PS last year my Sister used this and she also added shredded cheese and
made hundreds of little dog bone cookies to this. Most all the dogs
preferred these cookies to the MEATBALLS that we had on the buffet table!
