<div>As I read the early spay/neuter study, all I could think was how many more unwanted dogs there would be in shelters and getting euthanized if we waited till females got to be a year old before they were spayed. Some of the forms of euthanasia that is used in the shelters here in the south are absolutely barbaric but continue to this day no matter how much outrage there is or how many petitions are signed. We all know that a lot of people don't see cats and dogs the same way that you and I do and you know that the unwanted pet population would increase significantly if dogs weren't spayed/neutered early. I guess I would rather take the chance on the possible consequences of early spay rather than have a litter of unwanted puppies. Plus, as Bev said, this was a pretty informal study and I don't know how much credence you can put with it.</div>
<div> </div><div>I didn't know about getting meds at the pharmacy until my vet told me about it. A lot of places (Target and Walmart are two of them) sell certain generics for $4 and our vet was the first one to clue me in about it. I know some of the grocery stores have gotten on that same band wagon and are doing the same thing. You can go to their website and see the specific meds that they have at that price. I'm with Bev. If a vet is more interested in selling medications than helping you save some money, I'd be looking for another vet. </div>
<div> </div><div>The mastiffs are with us for a week while my daughter is in NY. I was so proud of Ginger the other day. She was on the ortho bed and Brutus very carefully oozed onto it behind her and laid down. It wasn't too long ago that she would have gone after him for invading her space but she just looked at him and went back to sleep. Believe me, I had the spray bottle in my hand because she won't hesitate to go after one of the mastiffs even though they are so much bigger than she is but she was good. As sad as I am to not be fostering any longer, I'm really seeing the benefits in her behavior. She apparently just can't tolerate the upheaval of having a bunch of different dogs here all the time. She hasn't had an outburst in a long time. I don't think that we'll ever be able to be totally complacent with this Houndette but it's nice to be able to relax our vigilance a little. I even took pictures of the two of them for the DH to see because I knew he'd never believe it if he didn't see it.</div>
