We hope that things go well for her for a long, long time, but we know how it is with seniors and with wild bassets and know that it's a good time to get in some socialization in your household.<br><br> <br>Our Holly is not surprised that yours is nearly perfect, since she feels that all Hollys are perfect, her own flaws notwithstanding.<br><br>My theory with dogs is that I "allow" them two flaws. Our Holly also enjoys poop eating of all sorts. Her second flaw is that she will lie in the major house pathways where everyone walks and give Dexter, our blind boy, a hard time when he tries to walk by her. Since he has gotten his nose bitten several times, he is now very nervous when he gets near to her. I would happily retrain her on this, if I had a clue how to do it, but I can't really blame her for not wanting to be run into by a
blind dog who sometimes seems to do it intentionally. Of course even if he avoids her, her theory is to do until him before he can do unto her.<br><br>Does Dexter have a flaw? He loves the world and wants to be petted by any human in it. So he will bark at people to get their attention. He also prefers to stay outside when the mama wants to bring everyone in. (Pretty minor flaws, I think.)<br><br>Horton is also nearly flawless. He does bark at any dog or human who walks by us, especially when we are near home. When I lift Dexter off our bed, he insists on standing just under him.<br> <br>No basset is perfect. If your Holly has only one flaw, I think you can count her as being virtually flawless. He is still quite annoyed that some of his things<br>on earlier window programmes like his scrabble and bridge games will not<br>down load onto windows 8 because they are outdated. Now that all the space<br>is back and he has retrieved almost all his mails and has got up to date<br>with our drools, we are much happier ,nothing worse than a grumpy slave.<br>Last week on Thursday night my brother Joshua gave the slave Johnathan a<br>black eye, they both tried to get into
Jonathan's armchair at the same time<br>and Joshua crashed into Johnathan's face as he hurriedly tried to sit down.<br>On the Friday night I got into the armchair first , I was all curled up<br>snoring away with Johnathan sitting on the floor with his back leaning<br>against the chair, he reached across the table to pick up his glass of Pepsi<br>and my brother thinking it was food jumped on to the slave with the entire<br>glass of Pepsi spilling over me and the chair. I was really not amused and<br>Joshua was laughing at me while the slave cleaned up the chair and covering<br>and then started cleaning me as I could not go to bed all sticky with Pepsi.<br>Then on the Saturday night they were invited to dinner with a set menu at a<br>restraunt about 110 kilometres from our house and had to be there for<br>pre-dinner drinks and snacks by 07.00 for 07.30, the slaves fed us early and<br>told us they should be back about 22.30, much to our and the slaves
horror<br>the last course was only served at 23.45. When the slaves arrived at home it<br>was almost time for us to get up for breakfast .We are sending get well and<br>stay well drool to Emily's brother and houndies Bo, JP ,Rosie, Suzy, Nigel<br>,Pumpkin ,Bourdeaux and the puppy at San Diego Rescue. We are sending caring<br>slurps and kisses to Einstein who is missing his brother Hershey greatly.<br>Bourdeaux , we are sending you make the most of it drool for the short time<br>you have left with us. I wrote to the Daily Drool a couple weeks ago for advice on our Dora losing her toe nails. She had injured one and been on a round of antibiotics but then started losing the others without cause. She had developed an infection in all her toes somehow. After a week of antibiotics they sedated her, removed all her remaining nails and packed her paws and wrapped them. She had more antibiotics and pain med and was to
return to the vet to have the dressings removed in 4 days.<br>She milked it for all it was worth; she couldn't (wouldn't) stand up and didn't stand up once in 4 days! She weighs 67 lb and is a long dog. DH and DD placed her on a "sling" and lifted her into the wagon and pulled her outside and lifted her out. She did her business by just barely lifting her butt then they lifted her back, after replacing the sling, info the wagon, pulled her back in and lifted her to her bed. They did this 4-5 times a day. We carried food and water to her and repositioned her. Whenever she wanted something she would whine , look pitiful and lift up her front paws to show why she couldn't move. She got us up in the night to rub her tummy; she was not in pain, just soiled!<br>All the humans where glad when it was time to go back to the vet. They rolled her in in her wagon and the vet asked why they didn't let her walk. They informed him she
couldn't walk and hadn't walked and Dora showed him her poor paws. He just shook his head and rolled his eyes and they knew we'd been had! The vet had the tech take a picture of Dora in her wagon. The next morning she woke me with her usual woof that she needed to go out but she was still on the couch. I said come on Dora but she put on her pitiful look and held up her front paws(now without dressings); she wanted her wagon. She has to continue on the antibiotics for several months but her her nail are growing out and she getting around fine although she misses the wagon! To me, the DD is like a totally understanding Best Friend. <br>Better than any real, in-the-flesh ones, that's
for sure. There's always <br>someone out there, sometimes many, who so totally understand and so many <br>who have "been-there, done-that," and have ideas, hints, workable <br>solutions to just about any problem that may arise.<br><br>I am not a frequent poster myself, true -- but I never fail to read all <br>posts as they are posted. Since I save them to glean useful ones for <br>future Bugler publications, I do get behind and mostly ask for <br>post-permission to reprint 4 to 6 months (sometimes more) after initial <br>writing -- but they are always read initially. Aside from the usual help <br>offered with problems, am always touched by the outpouring of sympathy <br>over someone's loss. Truly, DD people understand in a way that, usually, <br>one's own friends or relatives do not -- how horrible each loss is and <br>how deep the loneliness is when one's dog dies -- even if one still has <br>other dogs. The saying, "Each man's death diminishes us all"
holds true <br>when a beloved dog dies, too. Support from the Drool does help. It <br>doesn't cure, of course, but it does help. Perhaps others feel the same <br>way, but I actually feel closer to many on the list, whom I've never met <br>and never will, than to anyone I know -- except possibly the DH, DW or <br>DP.-- maybe sometimes even them.....<br><br>Thank you all again.<br>Riche<br>P.S.
