Houndservant QUITE unhappy to report that long-term HMS Santa Rosa guest, Lady Foxy, is also suffering an allergy flare-up. This after Houndservant was out of town, came back, and the Lady was LOVELY--really looked good after a week's care with GGBR Commander-In-Chief, Gloria--at the vetspital/hound hotel in Novato, CA.

Being boneheaded and often clueless, Houndservant had finally determined that grass was a problem. Had all the grass (mainly foxtails) mowed. It seemed to help, now that rain has ended (a dry year, at that), to be down to dry grass. BUT NO. No Such Luck. Apparently L. Foxy is also allergic to house dust and dirt dust and doG knows what else--maybe Acacia trees.

Anyway. L. Foxy is going back to the vetspital & CIC Gloria tomorrow (as Houndservant is on maneouvers to Bozeman, MT for a couple of weeks) and is going to be put on Alpoquel or Temeril-P or Something Else. Plus whatever else she needs. She's not that red, but she is hot to touch and also digging at herself again; that brown ucky look is creeping over her and for the first time, her ears are touchy and she won't let Houndservant do more than look. And some of her fur is getting patchy. All this in the last 3-4 days in spite of her regular regime.

Arrrgh!! The only succor Houndservant can provide poor little beastie is all-hound hand-scratches throughout the day. L. Foxy has become quite insistent on her scritch-massages.

Houndservant shall send mission updates as available on pestiferous allergies. O! The agony of watching a scritchy-itchy hound!!!

It is very concerning, this up and down. She was doing so well.

Managing a chronic condition in a hound is as bad as managing one in a human. L. Foxy knows how to gritch and moan and tell me she is miserable, O!

Now to the Splendiferous Vision!

Houndservant was visited during the dead of night with a most pleasing Vision (on second thought, maybe a nightmare). Waking from a sound sleep, Houndservant had the full color remembrance of being surrounded by 7 (yes, SEVEN) mighty bassets!

Houndservant is not making this up: each one wore a red sweater and a hat straight out of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! And each had a name woven in the sweater, yup: Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Dopey.... and Sneezy, who must certainly be Foxy in dream form!

They were doing the Basset 500. Even Sleepy.

Which got Houndservant thinking... Maybe it was NOT an indigestion-fueled phantasm from last night's cheezy fries! Maybe it was NOT triggered by recently watching Disney's new Maleficent on the Big Screen!

Maybe it is prescient! Maybe it is psychic! Perhaps a doG-given Vision Of Things To Come!!!

O! The Future in Howling Technicolor!

Perhaps Houndservant will one day receive orders to serve as dogrobber to 7 magnificent beasties named after the famous dwarfs!

Although there are better names... after 4 Daisy dog fosters in 18 months, Houndservant is developing a "hurricane list" for shelter personnel... name 'em by alphabet, move on to the next letter before rinse-and-repeat to avoid unfortunate dupes... names like Toulouse; Gumby; Sluggo; Scout; Piper; Jasper--Houndservant WILL serve under a Jasper before this Tour of Duty is over; Rastus; Ruby; Hoover and Eureka; Tinker and/or Bell... O! the possibilities! Foxy should really be called Indi, short for Independant, because she sure is...
