My luck - nothing better than a 4 month old basset girl sleeping curled to my
ribs. Gosh, how I miss it!<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

library and got a pile of books to learn the most I could about that little
girl that would pee in the newspaper but not outside, would chew everything and
cry the whole night until I put her in my bed.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:black'>I found books about the bond and
evolution between the wolf and the <span class=SpellE>pitecamptus</span>
erectus until they became dog and men /woman, boring books about training, a
good book about Bassets and the Basset Hound Owner's Survival Guide. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 color=black face=Tahoma><span style='font-size:

12.0pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:black'>I don't know how much I learned from
this latter one, I just know that I went to work laughing like a maniac in the
bus as I read it and the return home was the same. In it I learned about the
Daily Drool, about waddles for rescues, I learned A LOT about backyard breeders
(I had no idea about it and yes, shame on me, <span class=SpellE>Violeta</span>
is a pet store Basset). <span class=SpellE>Xaxa</span>, however, is a rescue
dog who had his <span class=SpellE>euthanization</span> planned if "I
didn't go picking him up TODAY" (I was the only rescue contact in Calgary
that wonderful killer had - he was TOO OLD (7) - too SICK (AN EAR INFECTION)
and aggressive ( he was sick, lonely, had been gone from house to house, and he
was HUNGRY - they gave him a piece of meat and then with a fake hand -don't
know how it works -took it away from him). And we are talking about a Basset
that went to the bridge with a cookie in his mouth! I WOULD BE VERY AGRESSIVE
TOO! So he was <span class=SpellE><span class=GramE>labled</span></span><span
class=GramE><span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span>"</span>Not fit
for adoption". If someone from the rescue didn't pick him up, he would go
to the bridge way, way too soon. I was the rescue person at that time, thanks
to Laurie <span class=SpellE>Magorel</span> from <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Winnipeg</st1:place></st1:City>, of the Canadian Basset Rescue
Network.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

clothing/collar/name tag/lead shopping spree, a very good bath in warm water
with <span class=SpellE>Jonhson's</span> Baby Shampoo and in a month he was
another boy. We taught him that it was ok to use any couch he wanted, and sleep
in any bed he found comfy enough.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:black'>He became our heart boy, shared 8
wonderful years with the family and <span class=SpellE>Violeta</span>...all
that started with Dianne Morgan's book.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

Amazon.com (before I just read the library one), and browsing it as soon as I
received today, I realized a new edition, with new info on rescues with email
and all that, should be done as soon as possible.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:black'>It is <span class=GramE>a great book,
that show</span> us the real life of Bassets and Basset owners: the love, the
rescues, the super funny stories of super smart dogs, the Daily Drool...for me,
it is a true Basset book for Basset owners book. <span class=GramE>The everyday
Basset owner.</span> <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=3 color=black face=Tahoma><span style='font-size:
12.0pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:black'>It may not be the book for serious
breeders, veterinarians, strict trainers, or, I mean, the people who will deal
with the serious stuff (not that we are not serious, of course we are, but we
are more owners, who see the Bassets as our babies, princess, princes, Kings,
Queens, attire addicted Hounds, Bassets that can talk to the ones who are
already at the bridge. We join to get money for rescues, we make T-shirts, we
buy T-shirts, etc<span class=GramE>..)</span><o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

seems to me that the two kinds of books are incredibly necessary and important.
Both kinds will inform the new (and not so new) Basset owner/Basset slave. So
reading the comments at <span class=SpellE>amazon</span>, I have to admit both
kinds (Owners/Slaves) are well intentioned and love those long bodied, short
legged, sweet beings.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt;font-family:Tahoma;color:black'>Since books like Diane Morgan's are as
necessary (there is one I saw "Deer Auntie Peggy") as the more
"serious" kinds, I would like to contact Diane, and talk to her if she
