Now she is her old self raising cane up there. She is no longer in pain or suffering. I am sure that you have many happy memories that you can use to help ease the pain of her leaving. I am sure that is what she would want you to do. Those memories do help, but it does take time. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers, and Millie will send of her special drool to also ease your pain. Please accept my sincere sympathy on your loss. <br></span></div>

He will be wearing a cone so can't reach it to lick or bite at it but would a a t-shirt keep him from scratching at it with his paw? An alumna of Daphneyland, Isabella was transported and fostered by Auntie Suz Green, who lived in San Antonio at the time, until I drove through in July 2009 en route to Mexico. Isabella was the softest, sweetest dog ever. Dumb as a box of rocks, but always extremely good-natured.<br /><br /><br />Isabella loved to bark. She was known as the 'fun police' in our neighborhood in Mexico because she barked and barked while the other dogs played. Here in MD, Isabella took her Homeland Security duties very seriously, employing her monotone barkbarkbark at every cat, dog, and human who passed our house. Her favorite target was Charlie the Mailman, whose every step was announced as he walked his route down the other side of the street and then back up our side.<br /><br /><br />Isabella was diagnosed on April 4 with an aggressive oral melanoma. A mass was removed from her mouth then, but another popped up just a few weeks later. Over the past two weeks, she declined quickly. I noticed a dramatic change every day this week. I had made an appointment with a vet from Lap of Love--a company that provides veterinary hospice and end-of-life care--to discuss hospice care. However, by the time the appointment rolled around, Isabella made it clear that she was ready to move on. Exactly two weeks after our dear friend, Marie Radebaugh, passed away, Isabella made her way over the Rainbow Bridge. I like to think that Marie welcomed Isabella and introduced her to all her OEBE friends already there.<br /><br /><br />Lap of Love has locations across the country, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The kind, compassionate care that we all received made this difficult time a little easier. Lap of Love provides in-home euthanasia. The vet explained everything calmly and thoroughly and gave us all the time we needed, both before and after the final injection. Lola was able to sniff Isabella's body before she was taken away, which I think was very helpful. And I appreciated being able to do this at home, which was easier on Isabella and on me because I didn't have to get in my car afterward and drive in an overly emotional state.<br /><br /><br />Lola, the other half of the OEBE Mexican (now Maryland) Mavens of Mayhem, and I are figuring out the new dynamics in our household. There was a mass on hers, but it ended up being a hematoma and not cancer. We have no idea why she had a hematoma there. Anyway, she felt pretty rough the first few days, and had no appetite, but we started feeding her this canned chicken stew and she came right around. She is fine now, although I have noticed she is not quite as active as she once was. Appetite is good, attitude is good. I am pleased with how she's getting along. The hematoma was bleeding internally, so I would have lost her had I not opted for the surgery. Her incision extended down her entire abdomen, so I know she was a sore little girl. I wasn't ready to lose her though. We had her spleen<br />removed, and it turned out to be a 2-lb hemangiosarcoma. As you say, it was<br />bad news, but the surgery did buy her six happy weeks. I am still in utter shock. As you know I get into a<br />fair amount of trouble, but never anything like this! Thursday the mom woke<br />up with a raging migraine. She said that when it rains, the barometric<br />pressure drops and that really messes with her head. I have no clue what<br />barometric pressure is, but it was obvious the mom wasn't at the top of her<br />game. Anyway, we got our breakfast and then we begged the mom to go out<br />again. She let us because Beauford was being quite loud. So, we all go<br />outside. Then we are ready to go in and a bird flies into the screened<br />porch! Beauford and Browyn instantly go into killer mode. I was trying not<br />to get trampled by my maniac siblings. Of course the mom comes to check on<br />us because they are jumping on the walls and making all kinds of racket.<br />The mom opened the door and before anyone knew what happened, the bird flew<br />into the house! Once the bird was under a shelving unit with feet, the mom<br />decided the best course of action was to give us our pills and put us down<br />for our morning nap. Well, she got all the hot dog slices filled and my<br />pill dough filled. Then Browyn managed to get the bird and wanted outside.<br />So, the mom runs to Browyn and gets the bird from her. Yep. You guessed it.<br />Beauford stole all the medicine for the second day in a row. The mom put<br />the bird outside to see if it would recover from the shock and the washed<br />her hands. Of course, she was yelling at the other two. Bit not me, me, me!<br />The mom said there is something wrong when everyone is a holy terror but<br />me. Not really sure what she meant by that. Anyway we all went to our<br />crates and the mom went back to bed. When we woke up, the mom checked on<br />the baby bird, but it didn't survive the jaws of Browyn. So, the mom<br />refused to look at her and got rid of the bird. It was obvious that the mom<br />needed peace and quite and to love on me. So, I quietly laid in her lap and<br />let her do that. I still had 8 bassets at home, and Mom home in hospice<br />care. My only thought was that my decision was the best for Pumpkin. It<br />was not cancer, but she apparently had a seed of cancer in her, and that<br />was what got her when she was almost 14. Pierre jr. had an enlarged spleen<br />at his near end, and he was already advanced in cancer, and it was too late<br />to do surgery. My Pierre Sr. died with internal bleeding, after a week at<br />the vet to try to get him to recover, no one said it was the spleen, but it<br />probably was. The vet who did his euthanasia, poked his belly with a<br />syringe (long after I said goodbye, and he was already on his path to<br />Heaven), and he said his belly was loaded with blood, indicating internal<br />bleeding. Both Pierre dogs were 7 when they passed, just a coincidence,<br />difficult for me to process to this day, but if it were me, and I trust my<br />Vet, if a spleen removal surgery could help your pet, I say do it.<br /><br />Blessed memories to our veterans. This is your weekend. Your service is<br />very appreciated by me and many others. Those are tailored and work better. Snoopy takes a small and Gracie an extra small<br /><br />Use a hair tie and gather us the t shirt in the middle of the back so it is tight around the waist. For boys make sure it is abound the boys parts so it stays dry. Put the hair tie on top of the dog, not under the belly. Works great. <br /><br />Good luck.
