  Are we your SP?  My two hounds and I live in Hawaii with a cat who believes in the superiority of cats and would never "wannabe" anything but himself.  He's been around a long time, though (10 years), well before the two bassets, so we may not be your SP after all.
  However, Hawaii did just add a state mammal this year--the monk seal.  Once upon a time the humpback whale was a state mammal, but I'm not sure what happened to it...The state "animal" is a bird--the nene--a goose that looks an awful lot light a Canadian goose to me, only with a rounder face.
