Haven't been guessing since everytime I think I am closing in, the next  
clue completely rules me out.
But my SP hasn't found me out yet so here goes:
 
#1 one of your bassets has the same name as a litter mate to  one   of   
mine

#2 in the Civil War we would have been on  opposite   sides.

#3 Your bassets have two names, mine only have   one,

#4  our names have something in common
 
#5 Your email address on this digest is different from the one on your  
signup,
