I have just a couple of words:

Pet Insurance

Specifically - the accident only policy at Pet Care Insurance (www.petcareinsurance.com), which for just about $10 a month will pay up for "ingested objects" surgery - average cost: $1,500-$1,800 (actually, socks are more expensive than rocks, because you can't see them on xrays and have to spring for ultrasound!).

Insure them now. You'll feel stupid if you don't, the first time you have to give up the Visa card for the surgery.
